SAN FRANCISCO — A former schoolteacher has been sentenced to federal prison for receiving explicit selfies from minors, crimes that were only discovered when the defendant’s significant other was investigated for similar conduct.U.S. District Judge Susan Illston last month sentenced Charles Barrett, of San Francisco, to five years in prison and three years supervised release. Barrett’s sentencing came weeks after a different judge sentenced Marc Nunez, Barrett’s husband, to one year behind bars.Prosecutors said in a sentencing memo that the crimes dated back to 2013 and 2014, when Barrett allegedly encouraged teen boys to send him explicit images of themselves. Authorities say he received nine images from one boy who stated he was 16, and at least one image from another 16-year-old boy. Barrett also sent the second boy explicit images of himself, prosecutors said.At the beginning of the prosecution, in 2022, prosecutors said one of the victims told police tha...61 indicted on charges related to ‘Stop Cop City’ in Ga.

By R.J. Rico | Associated PressATLANTA — Sixty-one people have been indicted in Georgia on racketeering charges following a long-running state investigation into protests against a planned police and firefighter training facility in the Atlanta area that critics call “Cop City.”In the sweeping indictment released Tuesday, Republican Attorney General Chris Carr alleged the defendants are “militant anarchists” who supported a violent movement that prosecutors trace to the widespread 2020 racial justice protests. The Aug. 29 indictment is the latest application of the state’s anti-racketeering law, also known as a RICO law, and comes just weeks after the Fulton County prosecutor used the statute to charge former President Donald Trump and 18 other defendants. The “Stop Cop City” effort has gone on for more than two years and at times veered into vandalism and violence. Opponents fear the training center will lead to greater militarization of the ...Woman pulled into car outside Concord 7-11, suspect arrested: police

(BCN) -- In a landmark settlement agreement, two major pharmaceutical companies and a retailer will pay San Francisco over $267 million in the next 15 years to resolve allegations of their complicity in fueling the city's opioid crisis. On Tuesday, the city's Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a settlement agreement between the City and County of San Francisco and Walgreens Co., Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. and Allergan Finance, LLC. The three companies have agreed to pay a collected $267 million in settlement fees for a 2018 lawsuit, with Walgreens taking the largest share at a whopping $229,610,002. The lawsuit alleged these companies violated the unfair competition law by falsely and misleadingly marketing opioids as safer than they actually were, and distributed large quantities of opioids in the city "despite knowledge of the growing epidemic," reads the ordinance. ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ streams suddenly skyrocket — thanks to Filipinos Each of th...Canadian man accused of running over and killing a Muslim family pleads not guilty

NEW YORK (AP) — Novak Djokovic reached his record 47th Grand Slam semifinal, breaking a tie with Roger Federer for the most by a man, by defeating Taylor Fritz 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 at the U.S. Open on a steamy Tuesday.Djokovic improved to 13-0 for his career in quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows — and to 8-0 against Fritz, an American who was seeded No. 9.The match was played with the Arthur Ashe Stadium retractable roof partially shut, which offered shade both for spectators and the two competitors on an afternoon when the temperature topped 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) and the humidity was above 55%.On the changeovers, the players sought solace, either by removing a shirt for a bit or wrapping ice-stuffed towels around their necks or pouring water overhead. Both Djokovic, a 36-year-old from Serbia, and Fritz, a 25-year-old from California, had some trouble on the most sweltering day of the tournament so far.But while Djokovic eventually got his shots straightened out, Fritz’s m...Say cheese: Ohtani body double finds way into Angels’ team photo

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — It is next to impossible to replace all that Shohei Ohtani can do when standing on a baseball field, although the Los Angeles Angels did their best for a few minutes Tuesday. With Ohtani unavailable for team photo day, as he continues to be examined for oblique soreness that cropped up Monday, the team put a body double in a No. 17 jersey and lined him up in the outfield with the rest of the players. After the photo was completed, the Ohtani imposter was ushered out of a tunnel beyond the left field wall.During his pregame session with the media, Angels manager Phil Nevin was asked if the body double, with a strikingly similar frame to Ohtani, could potentially pitch or hit.“Shohei will be in the photo when you see it,” Nevin said with a smile, suggesting that somebody’s Photoshop skills will be pressed into service.Alas, it could be the only time Ohtani’s No. 17 takes the field Tuesday. He was not in the lineup for the second consecutive day against the Baltimo...La búsqueda del asesino prófugo Danelo Cavalcante sigue por sexto día en Pensilvania, mientras la comunidad permanece en vilo
