Authorities detail events of Pope County deputy’s slaying, ID suspect who opened fire

Authorities have identified the domestic violence suspect who died in a weekend gunfight that also killed a sheriff’s deputy in the small western Minnesota community of Cyrus.The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Bryan Nygard, 34, of Cyrus. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension also identified the two Pope County deputies and the Starbuck police officer involved in the Saturday night incident.Deputy Josh Owen died after being shot three times during the exchange of gunfire, according to the BCA. Owen fired his department handgun during the incident.He had 14 years of law enforcement experience and was slain on his 44th birthday.Deputy Brody Merrill fired his department handgun as well. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – Less than three weeks after Tim Lohmar's abrupt resignation as St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney, County Executive Steve Ehlmann has appointed a successor.On Wednesday, Ehlmann named Joseph McCulloch the county's next chief prosecutor.“Joe McCulloch is an experienced trial attorney with a broad range of experience in criminal law, ranging from traffic offenses to homicide,” Ehlmann said.The county council has scheduled a confirmation vote for the April 24 meeting. LOUIS - A St. Louis man pleaded guilty Wednesday during trial and admitted his involvement in a 2019 murder in the city's Walnut Park West neighborhood.Prosecutors with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office said Earl Payne, 24, along with Teraz Bateman and Cortez McCullough, set up a fake marijuana deal in order to rob associates of cash. The trio met with Charles Lagrone III and others on Aug. 9, 2019, in the 5500 block of Goodfellow Boulevard.At some point during the transaction, Lagrone was shot and killed. He was 22. A memorial will be held Wednesday night to honor the life of Wesley Welling, a 15-year-old boy who was killed during a string of violent incidents that culminated with a car crash in Thousand Oaks Tuesday afternoon.Welling was killed after he was hit by a vehicle outside Westlake High School. Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are asking for the public’s help locating a missing person.Seiichi Tagychi, a 94-year-old man, was last seen leaving his assisted living facility on the 8400 block of Mission Drive in Rosemead on Wednesday evening around 11:30 p.m., a news release said.Tagychi has dementia and diabetes and authorities are concerned about his well-being. Motorcyclist Pronounced Dead after Fatal Collision near Clarendon AvenuePHOENIX, AZ (April 19, 2023) – Late Friday night, one man was fatally struck in a motorcycle accident on 16th Street.Just before midnight, police responded to the scene near Clarendon Avenue on April 14th.Per reports, the driver of a vehicle attempted to make a left turn while the motorcyclist was heading south on 16th Street.
