Why you should never feed waterfowl bread

Published Mon, 17 Feb 2025 09:29:32 GMT

(WTNH) — As the weather gets warmer, wildlife officials are reminding people not to feed waterfowl bread. While pinching off pieces and tossing it out may seem like a good thing to do, it can cause ducks, geese and swans to develop severe or even fatal health problems.Stratford Animal Control in Connecticut issued a public safety announcement after a goose was rescued from a local pond with a hook in its leg. After the rescue, animal control officers discovered the goose and several others in the pond had a condition called angel wing. IRS warns taxpayers of new ‘unclaimed refund’ scam – here’s how it works Angel wing causes waterfowl’s feathers to grow too fast, making them project away from the bird's body. The waterfowl then lose the ability to fly and protect themselves from predators.A rear close up view of a domestic goose suffering from the condition known as "angel wings", where flight feathers twist upwards, resulting from a high protein diet. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Since last Saturday, high temperatures in Austin at Camp Mabry had stayed under the 100º mark, but today ended our 6 day "cooler" stretch. We reached 102º Saturday afternoon and expect similar, if not slightly warmer temperatures for the next week or more as high pressure builds to our west.High pressure in controlWith the higher temperatures, and plenty of humidity, heat advisories have been issued from the National Weather Service for the Austin Metro and our eastern counties where heat index values (feels-like temperatures) may exceed 105º.Heat Advisory from Sunday afternoon through Monday eveningWhile rain chances are almost non-existent, there's been a recent hint in our computer models wanting to pop-up very isolated storms near and east of I-35 on Monday and Tuesday. I'll wait for a bit more agreement among other models before putting higher rain chances on our 7-day forecast, but just know that it's something we're looking at (and hoping for). The area of hig...

He used to watch and tell himself he wanted to be there someday. That day is finally here.“That’s always been one of my motivations,” he said. “That’s always been one of my goals, one of the things I wanted to do. I wanted to participate and I know you have to work. You have to work hard for it. No one’s...

You have things to learn,” Abdul-Jabbar told him on the stage during the 30-minute conversation that Thomas moderated, one of the featured attractions at the inaugural NBA Con. “But he’s an intelligent young man. He’ll get it done.”Hundreds of people crammed into a small space to hear the conversation; many more who couldn’t get in stretched their phones near the doors, desperate for even a look. “It truly means...
