Bruins historic season falls far short of the goal

The 2022-23 Bruins made history in the regular season. Now, they are just history. The 65-win team blew a 3-1 series lead and then a late one-goal lead to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 at the Garden on Sunday night before Carter Verhaege scored at 8:35 of overtime. The Bruins have known heartbreak before, but this is right up there with their most shocking, painful playoff losses in their 99-year history. But the Panthers earned every bit of this series, proving more resilient than the team that set the record for most wins in a season. If this is the last we see of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, it’s a very tough way to go out for two guys who should have their numbers in the rafters at some point. The B’s almost got through to the next round. With the Florida goalie pulled, Brandon Montour scored his second goal of the game to tie the 59.3 seconds left in regulation when his shot from the left circle deflected off of Charlie McAvoy’s stick and past Jeremy Swayman ...Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ linebacker Shaquil Barrett’s daughter drowns in family pool

SAN DIEGO -- The former Metropolitan Transit System employee that accused Supervisor Nathan Fletcher of sexual assault has spoken out for the first time since her allegations were made public in a lawsuit filing late last month.Grecia Figueroa, who worked as a public relations specialist for the transportation agency until earlier this year, expressed frustration for how she has been treated since coming forward with her allegations in a blog post published on Saturday."It’s no wonder people feel they’ll be judged when speaking up about sexual harassment, if seeking vindication of one’s own rights leads them to be called a liar, a mistress, a gold digger, and far worse names," Figueroa wrote. Timeline: Unfolding of the Nathan Fletcher scandal In her statement, she lamented about how the hostility directed to her exemplifies the kinds of responses that often keep people quiet about sexual harassment.Formal action is infrequently taken after individuals experience harassment: accor...Paraguay’s long-ruling party romps to presidential victory

It's always a plus when we report a month with above-normal rainfall because there haven't been too many of them. That's what happened in April. Normally Austin's 10th wettest month with just 2.42", this April did much better with 4.18". Rain was measured (.01" or more) seven days. In fact, 2.43" of that 4.18" was measured on April 6 and 7, putting Austin over the normal total very early in the month. It's the most rain measured in April since a most-welcomed 7.28" in 2019.April 2023 is the first month with above-normal rain since November 2022 when 4.14" was measured, a surplus of 1.22". And, it's the wettest month since 5.72" in August 2022. Yes, August. The surplus of rain was not enough to make even a dent in our ongoing drought. Not enough rain in April to ease the droughtThe "generous" rainfall, however, came with a heaping helping of severe weather events, especially the last week of the month.
