Girlschool is in for Alice Cooper Girlschool is in for Alice Cooper: Jackie Chambers, guitarist with British metal trailblazers Girlschool told us about her Alice Cooper experience.Jackie Chambers: Well, my all-time favourite gig has got to be an Alice Cooper gig, so many to choose from so I’ll pick the one where we were opening for him in Spain a few years back.Like so many of Alice’s gigs the stage was set with all the usual props, the guillotine, the gallows, the coffin and all the other things that make every show he does so enjoyable. What made this one more spectacular was the fact that I got to go backstage beforehand, where the band took me around and showed me how it all worked.Watching that night, I saw it all with new eyes and was transported back to that little teenage girl again watching for the 1st time.As amazing as ever, I was buzzing for days afterwards.Girlschool is in for Alice Cooper: Girlschool’s new album WTFortyFive? is out from July 28.      &nbs...

Heat wave meets lifeguard shortage, reduced hours at Bay Area pools and beaches Beach time, pool sessions and swimming lessons are in hot demand as temperatures soar across the Bay Area, but shorter hours and lengthy waitlists are creating challenges for families eager to beat the heat by jumping into cool waters. For novice swimmers, learning to float and blow bubbles may prove especially difficult this summer.More than three years after the world closed down, the pandemic continues to impact us in unexpected ways, including at public swimming pools and parks where last year’s lifeguard shortage has been joined by a swimming instructor shortfall. An excessive heat warning for the Bay Area over the weekend and inland temperatures expected to veer into triple digits in the East Bay are creating fresh demand that just can’t be met.In San Francisco, lifeguard rosters were only 77% full as summer kicked off. In Los Angeles County, pool hours have been cut in half. And in the East Bay, recreation centers that typically lose half their employees each year s...

Meet the 25-year-old data analyst who’s helping coach the Warriors’ Summer League team LAS VEGAS – Most NBA data analysts ply their craft far from the basketball court, working more with percentages than pick-and-roll techniques, but Hannah Heiring isn’t the typical number-cruncher.There she was, on the court this week, running through drills along with the Warriors’ Summer League team in her role on the coaching staff in Las Vegas.Just two years ago, this would have never seemed possible to the 25-year-old former Division III guard who at that time was working remotely as a business analyst for a small insurance company.By last summer, Heiring was parading down Market Street after helping the Warriors win the NBA Finals.
