ST. LOUIS – As he rounds out his first year in the United States Senate, Republican Eric Schmitt sat down with FOX 2’s Andy Banker this week for a one-on-one interview. The wide-ranging, 23-minute interview touched on everything from his roots in Bridgeton to his unwavering support of former President Donald Trump.Earlier this week, Trump suffered another legal blow: the Colorado Supreme Court decided that his name should be removed from the state’s 2024 presidential primary ballot. The court ruled that Trump encouraged insurrection with his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, sparking the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.During Schmitt’s 2022 Senate campaign, he held a million-dollar-plus fundraiser at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The two remained close, he said.“I have endorsed him (for president in 2024),” Schmitt said. “I was one of the first senators in the country to endorse him. I stay in regular contact. I think he’s going to win.”He gave little merit to the...Keeler: CSU Rams coach Jay Norvell’s biggest football recruiting wins on National Signing Day were from his own roster. But can he build on that momentum?

FORT COLLINS — Somebody offered Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi $600,000 to enter the transfer portal? That coach either didn’t watch the kid’s Wyoming tape or didn’t care.“The way we build football teams to win is being challenged by the transfer portal and NIL,” CSU football coach Jay Norvell said Wednesday as the Rams celebrated the first day of college football’s early signing period with 19 commitments.“But something has to be done. If a school tampers with players on somebody else’s roster, they should get fined. They should be docked scholarships. Right now, people are breaking the rules and buying their way out of it … Look what’s happened all over. Look at Arizona State, Tennessee, Michigan. Nobody gets penalized for breaking the rules, so it’s very frustrating.”Poaching accusations aside, it’s been a solid fortnight for the Rams, even with the fallout from a certain reality show that dropped earlie...Ventura County man charged with murdering mother, attacking father with hammer

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is trying to eliminate the state’s car tax, as part of his proposed budget shared with some state lawmakers Wednesday.Calling it the “single most-hated tax in Virginia,” Youngkin said “eliminating it permanently is complicated. Yet it is a very worthy aspiration.”Under Youngkin’s plan, revenue generated from the car tax would be replaced with “a further increase in local sales taxes.”The proposed budget calls for an increase in the state sales tax, from 4.3% to 5.2%, and a 12% cut in state income taxes that Youngkin said includes all tax brackets. It would cover the next two fiscal years.“The car tax belongs in the trash can, not in your mailbox,” Youngkin said Wednesday.Getting rid of the long-standing car tax would likely be popular, but it’s an unoriginal idea, according to Stephen Farnsworth, a political-science professor at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia...Bailey’s 18 lead Evansville past Tennessee Tech 82-51
