US investigating whether Ukraine war documents were leaked WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department has launched an investigation into the possible release of Pentagon documents that were posted on several social media sites and appear to detail U.S. and NATO aid to Ukraine, but may have been altered or used as part of a misinformation campaign. The documents, which were posted on sites such as Twitter, are labeled secret and resemble routine updates that the U.S. military’s Joint Staff would produce daily but not distribute publicly. They are dated ranging from Feb. 23 to March 1, and provide what appears to be details on the progress of weapons and equipment going into Ukraine with more precise timelines and amounts than the U.S. generally provides publicly. They are not war plans and they provide no details on any planned Ukraine offensive. And some inaccuracies — including estimates of Russian troops deaths that are significantly lower than numbers publicly stated by U.S. officials — have led some to question the documents’ au...

Newcomer Kyle Farmer delivers in walk-off win

Newcomer Kyle Farmer delivers in walk-off win Kyle Farmer has found one way to endear himself to the new hometown fans: sending the sellout crowd home happy with a walk-off hit.The infielder hit a walk-off double in his first career at-bat in 2017. It wasn’t until Friday that he recorded his second walk-off, this one in the 10th inning, boosting the Twins to a 3-2 win over the Astros in their home opener.“This is his first (walk-off),” he said, pointing to his young son, McCoy, who he was holding in the clubhouse postgame Friday. “So pretty special. Any way to help the team win, that’s great, too.”Farmer’s late-game heroics came after Jose Miranda knotted the game at one apiece after the Astros had gone ahead in the top of the 10th. An intentional walk to Donovan Solano before him — Ryne Stanek threw three balls before the decision to walk him intentionally — set the stage for a bases-loaded, one-out for Farmer.Farmer’s single up the middle brought home Trevor Larnach, capping a late comeback.“I was going to take my first...

John Shipley: Rolling rotation has lengthened the Twins’ leash on starters Don’t look now but the Twins have the best starting rotation in baseball. They actually have the best pitching staff in baseball after their 3-2, 10-inning victory over the Houston Astros in Friday’s home opener.Twins pitchers have a combined earned-run average of 1.74, and their 74 strikeouts ranked third after Friday’s day games. But it’s really been a rotation that started the season with great potential and so far has exceeded expectations — a combined 4-1 with a 1.12 ERA and 52 strikeouts topped all big league rotations. That strikeout total was boosted considerably Friday by Sonny Gray. Making his second start of the season, he was lights out on a day that flummoxed hitters with cool temperatures and late-afternoon shadows at Target Field. He gave up four hits, walked one and fanned a career-high 13 batters over seven innings.Gray was so good that manager Rocco Baldelli and pitching coach Pete Maki sent him out for the seventh, in a 1-1 game, without much hesitation.“I di...
