More Colorado schools stock overdose reversal meds, but others worry about stigma By Rae Ellen Bichell and Virginia Garcia Pivik, KFF Health NewsLast year, a student fell unconscious after walking out of a bathroom at Central High School in Pueblo. When Jessica Foster, the school district’s lead nurse, heard the girl’s distraught friends mention drugs, she knew she had to act fast.Emergency responders were just four minutes away. “But still four minutes — if they are completely not breathing, it’s four minutes too long,” Foster said.Foster said she got a dose of naloxone, a medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose, and gave it to the student. The girl revived.Forty-five miles away in Colorado Springs, Mitchell High School officials didn’t have naloxone on hand when a 15-year-old student overdosed in class in December 2021 after snorting a fentanyl-laced pill in a school bathroom. Silverton ski area’s new owners plan to keep the backcountry focus that makes it unique The new operators of the Silverton ski area are passionate backcountry skiers, so they understand what sets the area apart and they plan on retaining what makes it unique.Silverton founders Aaron and Jenny Brill sold the operation last month to Heli, a company with Aspen roots that maintains an online marketplace for booking adventure travel. Silverton Mountain has one lift and offers a plethora of expert hike-to backcountry terrain. There are also guided trips and helicopter drops for the truly adventurous.“Silverton has been a legend, and I’ve visited probably half a dozen times,” said Aspen resident Andy Culp, co-founder and chief executive of Heli, who plans to spend most of this coming winter at Silverton. “It doesn’t take much to realize how magical the town is, and how special the ski experience is. We’re just super honored to be in this position.”Heli is owned by private investors, but co-founder Brock Strasbourger, who is the company’s presiden...

Broncos Journal: The 2022 Denver offense vs. 2023 Jets under Nathaniel Hackett? “I honestly couldn’t tell you the difference” Nobody lacks for opponent film in the NFL, but even by modern standards the Broncos defense has plenty to work with this week.In fact, players and coaches don’t even have to look outside the building. They have every single practice from last year. Fifteen games worth of Nathaniel Hackett offense. Installs and techniques and as much detail as you could possibly imagine.Since the schedule came out in May, this game’s been circled.Hackett would have been intriguing enough. Then Aaron Rodgers joined the fold — before he tore his Achilles four plays into the season. Then Sean Payton lit the NFL news cycle on fire in July when he torched Hackett and pretty much everything about the 2022 Broncos during an interview with USA Today as training camp started. But for all of the drama, the most impactful actual connection between Hackett and the Broncos leading into Sunday’s matchup is also the most practical. The Denver defense should be more than just a little familiar with what they’re going...

Not only do CSU and Utah State enter Saturday with two of the top 50 scoring offenses in FBS, they also sport two of the bottom 20 scoring defenses. While CSU has shown improvement on the defensive side of the ball, particularly in the second half at MTSU, the Rams are still 116th in scoring defense at 34.0 points allowed per game. That’s just one spot behind Utah State at 33.8.Finishing strong: Of course, there is some context behind those defensive numbers. Since giving up 93 points combined in losses to No. 13 Washington State and Colorado, CSU has allowed just 43 in wins over Middle Tennessee State (31-23) and FCS Utah Tech (41-20). The Broncos were only a year removed from a winning record. Taylor Swift was still dating actor Joe Alwyn. How long has it been? Shedeur Sanders was 15 the last time CU was a road favorite in a Pac-12 game that fans were allowed to attend.“This week is more about expectations than many of the other weeks,” first-year Buffs football coach Deion Sanders said a few days back when asked about his 3-2 squad’s visit to 1-4 Arizona State on Saturday. “Because that’s the expectation that we have of ourselves, to go in and win this game. You want to win every game. But, I mean, you really expect to win some games a lot more than others.”Vegas expects Coach Prime to seal the deal. Opinion: Young voters want to see U.S. unity to fight climate change

Opinion: Young voters want to see U.S. unity to fight climate change “Polls consistently show that young people’s number one issue is climate change,” said young conservative Alexander Diaz in a video shown to the Republican presidential candidates during the first primary debate late August.College students Anna Novoselov, a Democrat, and Adrian Rafizadeh, a Republican, both from the Bay Area, warn that the GOP is making a mistake by refusing to acknowledge the science of climate change. Yet when asked if they believe in human-induced climate change, only former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley said climate change “is real.” Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called the climate change agenda a “hoax,” which invoked boos from audience members.Climate change wasn’t even mentioned at the second GOP debate on Sept. 27.Refusing to acknowledge the science is a political mistake for the Republican Party. Climate change is no longer the partisan issue it was before: 74% of adults support U.S. participation in international efforts to mitigate global warming, and 80%...

Review: Jamie Foxx is fantastic in courtroom drama ‘Burial’

Review: Jamie Foxx is fantastic in courtroom drama ‘Burial’ By Lindsey Bahr | Associated PressJamie Foxx deploys his movie star charm judiciously and skillfully as a litigator with swagger to spare in ” The Burial,” a very entertaining courtroom drama.Foxx is one of those actors, blessed with an allure and glamour that runs so deep that it’s almost tempting to dismiss a performance like this as one that’s natural. It’s one of those compliments that’s rotten at its core — of course he, or Clooney, or whomever, is good at being slick and appealing, right? If it looks effortless, we assume it is, denying them the work that goes into every role. The same could be said for “The Burial,” which is glossy, appealing and goes down suspiciously easy. Is there a catch or did director and co-writer Maggie Betts just prove her commercial chops in her sophomore feature? (It’s the latter.) Just take a look at the poster used for its marketing campaign —- a little retro, a little cheesy, and a lot self-aw...
