EDMONTON — Wildfire officials in Alberta say hot, dry and windy weather has pushed fire conditions even further into the extreme in the province’s north this weekend, and the situation in the south is now a growing concern.Josee St-Onge of Alberta Wildfire says the heat that’s been sparking new fires in the north and helping existing fires grow is also starting to impact the rest of the province. While St-Onge says conditions in the south aren’t as extreme at the moment, the province may need to reposition resources so it can be ready to respond quickly to new fires in the area. The number of evacuees in Alberta grew to more than 19,300 on Sunday, a jump from about 16,500 a day earlier, due to new evacuation orders in Rainbow Lake, Sturgeon Lake First Nation and Leduc County. There were 87 active wildfires in Alberta on Sunday afternoon, with 24 considered out of control.St-Onge says fire crews are already in the Rocky Mountain and Calgary forest areas in the south, ...3 people injured in River North shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Satellite images of the Colorado River provided by NASA show the powerful rush of water out of Glen Canyon Dam in late April successfully moved sand down the river. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation opened up the flow down the Colorado River and downstream to Lake Mead on April 24, sending a gush of water at 39,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) and lasting 72 hours. The desired effect: push sand and sediment out of the riverbed below the dam to build up sandbars further down the river. Those sandbars provide camping spots for people along the river. The image slider below shows the result, particularly in the area around Horseshoe Bend, one of the most-photographed spots on the Colorado River. In the "after" image, the burst of water coming out of Lake Powell is still visible as a white splotch just below Glen Canyon Dam.NASA Earth Observatory images by Lauren Dauphin, using Landsat data from the U.S. Geological Survey.Since this "high-flow experiment," releases from La...1 dead in crash on FM 969 in eastern Travis County

The St. Paul Saints went down quietly on Sunday at CHS Field, closing out the homestand with a 15-3 loss to the Indianapolis Indians.Just how silent were the Saints’ bats? The home team struck out 14 times, which is not out of character for the Saints this season. They entered the game having struck out 392 times this season, which is the second-most in minor league baseball. They had a season-high 18 strikeouts in a loss at Rochester on April 28.“(Strikeouts) are kind of out of my control,” said Saints first-year hitting coach Nate Spears. “They are part of the game. When we think about them too much they tend to come in bunches. So, just try to relax the guys’ minds a little more and try to train a little harder in the cages — in and out of the zone — so we can start recognizing a little bit better.”Spears said the team trains on a daily basis on recognizing pitches in and out of the strike zone. But he doesn’t feel the high number of strikeouts is of particular concern.“I don’t th...St. Louisan Jayson Tatum sets Game 7 record with 51 points, Celtics beat 76ers 112-88
