Kizsla vs. Gabriel: Should the Broncos spend big on a running back in free agency?

Kiz: At the risk of irking Jim Brown or Emmitt Smith, conventional wisdom now states the best way for an NFL team to get in trouble is to overspend on a running back. Yes, running backs are a dime a dozen. And break easily. But I wouldn’t bet on Javonte Williams recovering from his knee injury to be anywhere near 100% when the Broncos open the season, and Denver needs to take a large chunk of the offensive burden off quarterback Russell Wilson. So what should the Broncos do at running back in free agency?Gabriel: They’re going to have to do something, I think that much is safe to say. In fact, George Paton said it himself at the NFL Combine earlier this month. What that looks like, though, is indeed an interesting question. One natural fit is Latavius Murray, given that he was apparently texting Sean Payton about coming to Denver before Nathaniel Hackett was even fired. The free agent crop could have been absolutely loaded, but diluted predictably in the last week with Saquon ...Woman killed, sheriff’s deputy injured after fire erupts at mobile home park in Strasburg

The writer behind a canceled Santa Clara County-commissioned government history book plagiarized from sources like Wikipedia will keep the $1 million she earned from the project.Jean McCorquodale, wife of longtime South Bay politician Dan McCorquodale, was awarded a no-bid contract in 2018 to complete what ultimately became a 580-page manuscript turned in two years late to the county executive’s office — the department overseeing the project.A grant writer for the county for decades, Jean McCorquodale was selected as the project’s author because of her purported unique and unparalleled knowledge of the county’s history and leadership. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Giants had made it three weeks into spring with hardly a single health problem of note, but it has become clear this week that they couldn’t dodge the injury bug forever. The entire left-half of their projected Opening Day infield has been shut down, the club announced Monday, a day after an MRI revealed an oblique strain that put into question the availability of their highest-paid free-agent addition and one of their best stories of camp, a two-way player throwing 98 mph, left his outing with discomfort in his forearm.Shortstop Brandon Crawford is dealing with discomfort in his left knee, the same one he injured on a slide into home plate last June. The Wildcats and Bruins are No. 2 seeds; both open the NCAAs in Sacramento; and both carry 12-to-1 odds to win the championship. Also, both have flaws — just not the same flaws. Our questions about the Wildcats: Are they tough enough up and down the lineup? Are the guards good enough on both ends of the court? Will star forward Azuolas Tubelis respond when the pressure is most intense? Not in the first round b...Latest news
