MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s president said Monday that about 10,000 migrants per day are heading to the U.S. border, and he blamed U.S. economic sanctions on countries like Cuba and Venezuela for the influx. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said the number of migrants reaching Mexico’s northern border with the United States was partly due to about 6,000 migrants per day crossing into Mexico from Guatemala over the past week.He said many of those migrants are traveling on a route through Central America that includes the jungle-clad Darien Gap region between Panama and Colombia.López Obrador seemed to join Colombian President Gustavo Petro in blaming the situation on U.S. sanctions on countries like Venezuela and Cuba, whose citizens make up a large part of the migrant flow. Experts say economic mismanagement and political repression are largely to blame for the tide of migrants leaving those countries. The United States has sanctioned both governments over what it consider...Woman, 79, killed at Quebec seniors residence; suspect, 81, under watch in hospital

WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense department authorities say the remains of an Ohio sailor killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, have been identified. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency said Monday that Navy Seaman 2nd Class Stanley C. Galaszewski, 29, of Steubenville, Ohio, was one of 104 crewmen on the battleship USS California killed during the Dec. 7, 1941, attack. The ship, moored at Ford Island, was attacked by Japanese aircraft and sustained multiple torpedo and bomb hits, which caused it to catch fire and slowly flood. Remains of the deceased crew recovered in the ensuing months were interred in the Halawa and Nu’uanu cemeteries. The remains were later taken to the Central Identification Laboratory at Schofield Barracks, which was only able to confirm the identities of 39 men. Unidentified remains were buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl in Honolulu. Keegan-Michael and Elle know more than a few of the Key characteristics of successful sketch comedy.Which means they would be the first to point out that lines like that don’t pass muster.Keegan-Michael Key, half of the famed “Key & Peele” comedy duo, and his wife, Elle Key, a writer, director and producer, have translated their award-winning podcast, “The History of Sketch Comedy,” into a hilarious and informative new book.“The History of Sketch Comedy: A Journey Through the Art and Craft of Humor” traces the art form from its earliest iterations hundreds of years ago to its current purveyors, including “Saturday Night Live” and “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” among others. In between, the authors deconstruct some of the medium’s most notable examples. The Keys provide transcripts of some of these classics, such as “The Argument” from the “Monty Python” troupe. As Michael Palin and John Cleese banter back and forth, Keegan-Michael Key interjects every so often. “It’s so stupid,” he ...Kentucky man linked to Breonna Taylor case arrested on drug charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky man who was the target of a series of police drug raids that led to the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor in 2020 has been arrested in Louisville on several drug-related charges.Jamarcus Glover, a former boyfriend of Taylor, was arrested Saturday on multiple drug offenses, including using juveniles under 18 to traffic heroin, according to court documents. In March 2020, police executed a series of “no-knock” drug warrants at different locations on the same night targeting Glover, including one at Taylor’s apartment. The warrant police used to enter Taylor’s apartment said Glover was suspected of using Taylor’s apartment as a place to have packages sent.A former Louisville officer has testified as part of a plea agreement that part of the Taylor warrant, which said a postal official had confirmed Glover was receiving packages at Taylor’s home, was falsified. Two other former Louisville officers are facing federal charges for allegedl...Stock market today: Most of Wall Street falls as the bond market cranks up the pressure

NEW YORK (AP) — Most stocks are falling Monday as the constrictor of higher interest rates tightens its coils around Wall Street. The S&P 500 was 0.5% lower in late trading, coming off its worst month of the year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 204 points, or 0.6%, as of 3 p.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.1% higher.Slumps for oil-and-gas stocks weighed on the market after crude prices gave back some of their sharp gains since the summer. The majority of stocks fell alongside them, with 85% of S&P 500 stocks dropping, but gains for Apple and some other influential Big Tech stocks helped limit the market’s losses.Stocks have broadly given back about 40% of their strong gains for the year since the end of July. The main reason is Wall Street’s growing acceptance that high interest rates are here to stay a while as the Federal Reserve tries to knock high inflation lower. That in turn has pushed Treasury yields to their highest levels in more than a dec...Chase Claypool will be away from the Bears longer

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — On a team where there is drama in a few places after a terrible start to the season, the biggest storyline at the moment concerns one of their wide receivers.Fans didn't see Chase Claypool in uniform or on the sidelines for the Bears on Sunday in the loss to the Broncos, and his absence will be extended. During his news conference on Monday morning, head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that the wide receiver will not be with the team this week as they prepare for a Thursday night game against the Commanders at FedEx Field at 7:15 p.m. This comes after Claypool was a healthy scratch in the 31-28 loss to Denver at Soldier Field in which the Bears dropped to 0-4 on the season."We just feel that it's best for the team at this time," said Ebeflus of the decision to not have Eberflus with the team this week, which he announced in his opening statement. "Ryan and I have informed him of that, and that's where it is. We just feel that's best for the team right now."Why does...Lunchbreak: Potato Pancakes with Bread Stuffing

The Broncos beat the Bears on Sunday, but they didn’t bask in any kind of glory Monday morning. The workweek started and head coach Sean Payton gave his team a clear message about where it stands heading into preparations for the New York Jets.“I said this to the team just 15 minutes ago. I said, ‘I’m encouraged that we fought back into that game, but man, let’s not finish today when we’re done watching this tape and feel like we’re content at all with how we played,’” Payton told reporters Monday. “(We have) too many things that still are disappointing or things that we have to clean up.”Indeed, Denver gave up 471 yards, 26 first downs and 28 points to a winless Chicago team that entered averaging 250, 15.7 and 15.7, respectively.“Same thing offensively,” Payton said. “We stalled for a period after the first touchdown. We went through a third of the game struggling. That sense of urgency has to exist again this week. We’re going to play against a lot better teams here in the next mo...Latest news
