ROUTT COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A Steamboat Springs teacher says she's dealing with an insurance nightmare after her house flooded in April. Desiree Wilcox says she woke up on April 14 to water rushing into her home in Hayden."I had a good 2 feet of water in each room at one point," she said. "Despite having numerous sump pumps, I just couldn’t keep up with it."Wilcox said she lost all of her furniture, clothes and other items, but her insurance company has only offered her $28,000."To get a quote, or an estimate like that, it’s just devastating," she said. "28,000: What am I going to do with that? My entire home is ripped up." Colorado is dropping in US News and World Report’s best states rankings She believes there's likely structural damage to her home as well, and she questions why more isn't being offered to stop it from happening again."We can fix the inside, but what happens when it floods again? 'Cause it’s going to flood again," she said. The Problem Solvers reached out ...Auon'tai Anderson pushes back on Denver school safety plan

Joe Biden

Does the radical climate change agenda know no end? Earlier this year, it was gas stoves — and then lightbulbs. Then, a few weeks ago, President Joe Biden’s administration announced much less gas cars after 2032. Even though about half of Americans say they don’t want an electric car and only 6% of drivers are buying them. But that was child’s play compared to the latest Biden scheme to shut down as many as half our electric power plants across the country. These are the plants that charge those Tesla batteries and cellphones. They also keep the lights on in our factories, schools, hospitals, stores, and homes and power the internet. Further, they cook our food and keep us warm at night. Most of the electric power supply in America and around the world comes from fossil fuels. Coal, gas and oil power plants account for more than 60% of the electric power we use in the United States today. Only about 20% comes from wind and solar power.Hold that thought. Because the Bi...Mary Ann Esposito’s Caprese Grilled Cheese

The long era of the dominance of the SAT in college admissions is coming to an end.The test is increasingly being shelved not because it failed but because it succeeded in all the wrong ways.According to a survey from an anti-testing outfit, more than 80% of four-year colleges won’t require standardized tests for admissions this coming fall. Many have made the tests optional, and some won’t consider them at all. In a swath of academia, the pandemic expedient of dropping the tests has seamlessly transitioned to a permanent change. If this isn’t a leap forward for fairness or rationality, it is another ringing victory for the equity of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” fame. With homework now on the chopping block for not being equitable enough — kids with involved parents tend to actually do their homework — it shouldn’t be a surprise that the SAT is being shown the door. The SAT, with its signature four-option multiple-choice answers, i...Latest news
