LINCOLNTON, N.C. (WJZY) — A man has been taken into custody after authorities say he intentionally struck six migrant workers in a North Carolina parking lot over the weekend. Lincolnton Police confirmed Monday night that the suspect — described only as an older white man — is in custody. The FBI's Charlotte office confirmed to Nexstar's WJZY they are assisting Lincolnton Police with their investigation into the incident, which took place Sunday. According to authorities, an older dark-colored SUV turned in front of a bus, crossed over a divider, and struck a group of migrant workers who were standing on the divider. The vehicle could then be seen leaving the scene as people rushed to help the victims.Six people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They have all since been released from the hospital. Police said Sunday that the incident "appears to be an intentional assault with a vehicle." 'No timeline'Belinda Johnson and her husband John are ready to move into their "forever home" in Kyle. Right now, they are living in an RV in Wimberley. The two are building their new home to accommodate some of their health needs. "The doorways we widened so that we can have wheelchair access," Belinda said. FOX 2 was the only media outlet in court for the latest twist in the high-profile case.Officer Samuel Davis’ attorney, Neil Bruntrager, made the case that Davis wasn’t running from police when they caught up with him out of state. An Ojai man was arrested on Monday for sexually abusing a child during his time as a teacher. According to a Ventura County Sheriff's Office news release, in February 2023, Ventura County authorities were alerted to a cold case sexual assault that took place from August 2012 through June 2017 involving the suspect, Paul Herder, who was a teacher at Oak Grove School in Ojai at the time. Detectives say that during Herder’s time as a teacher, he engaged in an unlawful dating relationship with a juvenile student, coerced the student to engage in numerous sexual acts, and sent harmful material to the student. Herder also possessed child pornography. Police traced and located Herder in Pahoa, Hawaii, where he was extradited to Ventura County and arrested for lewd acts on a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, luring and using a minor for sex acts, and other sexual assault charges. The State of California has adopted a rule that will require tiremakers to find a new alternative to a chemical that is currently in use that has been found to kill an endangered salmon species.6PPD, a chemical that helps reduce tire cracking and extends the life of tires, has been added to California's list of Priority Products, which identifies consumer products that contain chemicals that are potentially dangerous to people or the environment. Its inclusion means tire manufacturers will have until Nov. 30 to notify state regulators if they currently make tires that contain the chemical.According to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, 6PPD reacts with ozone in the air to form another chemical called 6PPD-quinone.
