AUSTIN (KXAN) — The monuments surrounding the Texas Capitol could include one honoring the anti-abortion movement after the Senate advanced legislation this week to get that process started.Senate Concurrent Resolution 24, introduced by Republican Sen. Tan Parker of Flower Mound, passed the chamber Tuesday by a vote of 20-10. The proposal calls for installing a replica of The National Life Monument created by Canadian sculptor Tim Schmalz, which depicts a woman with a fetus in her womb. "A replica of the monument on the Capitol grounds would provide a communal place for Texans to celebrate the beauty of human life," the resolution reads. The measure does not guarantee that this monument will be placed somewhere on the north Capitol grounds, but it does direct the State Preservation Board to start looking at plans and collecting private donations. During a phone interview with KXAN Friday, Schmalz called it "excellent news" to hear that state lawmakers are seeking to add the bronze m...Boil water notice issued for Plum Creek water system in Hays County

Minnesota United’s current three-losing streak has put them smack dab in the middle of the MLS Western Conference standings. Seventh out of 14 clubs, the Loons are average with roughly a quarter of the season completed. If the MLS Cup Playoffs started this weekend, the Loons would make the field and even be above the dividing line with the playoff field now bloated from seven to nine teams.MNUFC represents the only team in the West to make the playoffs in four consecutive seasons, but there aren’t clear signs so far that the Loons can finish in one of the top places, earn a home playoff game and make a deep run this fall.Minnesota (3-3-2, 11 points) will look to get out of its rut against FC Dallas (4-3-2, 14 points) at 8:25 p.m. Sunday at Allianz Field. Before last season, the Pioneer Press looked at four next-step objectives for the club — receive dividends from its youth academy making contributions to the MLS side, sell top players for profit, make the Concacaf Champions League an...A year in, likely no one’s opinions (good or bad) has changed on Timberwolves’ twin-towers approach

At least publicly, the Timberwolves exit the 2022-23 season as bullish on their Twin Towers trial as they were when they executed the trade to acquire Rudy Gobert last summer.“They’re both really incredibly good basketball players. With the skill level that (Karl-Anthony Towns) has, for sure, there’s no reason basketball-wise that it shouldn’t work,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “There’s a lot of things we can talk about about why the learning curve was so steep for it. But the most important thing is we have a big enough body of work, I think we can properly evaluate it. I still remain extremely confident we’re able to maximize those guys.”Timberwolves basketball boss Tim Connelly noted there were “some really clunky moments, and some really positive moments” throughout the first season of the experiment.“I thought as there was some more familiarity we saw some pretty impressive stretches of basketball from those guys and the surrounding three other players” in the lineup, ...Man bites off part of LAPD officer’s finger during Metro station altercation
