It seems like everyone has COVID-19. Here’s why this wave is probably worse than official data suggests

(CNN) — COVID-19 certainly didn’t take a vacation this summer. Virus levels in the US have been on the rise for weeks, but it’s hard to know exactly how widely it’s spreading.Federal data suggests that the current increases have stayed far below earlier peaks and notable surges. But judging by word of mouth among family, friends and coworkers, it can seem like everyone knows someone who’s sick with COVID-19 right now.“We have several folks down with Covid, unfortunately,” one health-focused nonprofit told CNN when seeking comment for this story.Rates of severe disease may be staying at relatively low levels, but experts agree that there are probably more infections than the current surveillance systems can capture.“There is more transmission out there than what the surveillance data indicates,” said Janet Hamilton, executive director of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists. “And we should be paying attention to it, because we are starting to see an increase.”From 202...Crash involving MBTA bus snaps utility pole in Dedham

Later this month, when Jackson Holliday accrues a week’s worth of Triple-A plate appearances, he’ll join a club of some of MLB’s biggest names. Before they became stars in the big leagues, Bryce Harper, Ronald Acuña Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ozzie Albies did what Holliday is about to do. MANSFIELD — It is not hard to find Trevor Foley when he is on the football field. He’s 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, and when he lines up for Mansfield at wide receiver, he draws a lot of attention. What is quite difficult, though, is being able to stop him. No one has done that yet, and the Hornets are hoping that continues in his senior season. With many taller receivers, running routes can be a bit awkward at the high school level. But Foley’s footwork and ability to change direction on a dime make him a tough cover.“Just practice, practicing over and over again, offseason, in season, after practice, before practice,” said Foley to explain his route-running prowess.“Usually, the tall, rangier kids that are that big, they’re good targets, but they’re not great getting in and out of cuts,” said Mansfield coach Mike Redding. “But he’s got great feet. His out cuts, he’s in and out and he’s got good length. You can run those...Div. 3-4 players to watch and other tidbits

STOCKHOLM (AP) — A trial started Tuesday in Stockholm of two executives of a Swedish oil exploration and production company accused of complicity in war crimes in Sudan 20 years ago by securing the company’s oil operations in the African nation.Prosecutors claim that Ian Lundin, former chairman of Lundin Oil, and Alex Schneiter, its former CEO, supported the Sudanese government of former dictator Omar al-Bashir. They said the two executives created “the necessary conditions for the subsidiary’s operations by conducting warfare in a way that entailed the Sudanese military and regime allied militia systematically attacking civilians or at least carrying out systematic attacks in violation of the principles of distinction and proportionality.”From 1983 to 2005, Sudan was torn apart by a civil war between the Muslim-dominated north and Christian south. A separate conflict in Darfur, the war-scarred region of western Sudan, began in 2003. Thousands of people were killed and nearly ...Homicide unit investigating after man shot outside home in Etobicoke
