LONDON — Some 11,000 miles from London, Britain’s trade chief Kemi Badenoch will make history this weekend as she signs off U.K. membership to one of the world’s biggest trade blocs. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is a genuine tongue twister — but it’s also Britain’s best “Plan B” alternative to a faltering World Trade Organization, says Crawford Falconer, the Whitehall official at the heart of the U.K.’s post-Brexit trade strategy. As Badenoch puts pen to paper in Auckland, New Zealand, this Sunday on a much-hyped deal that promises to deliver no more than a 0.08 percent bump to Britain’s domestic GDP, the biggest winner may not be the U.K. — but another fiercely-independent island nation on the other side of the world. For Japan, British accession to the CPTPP marks a diplomatic triumph many years in the making, the culmination of a hard-fought effort to recalibrate Western thinking toward its own strategic ai...Arrest made in deadly shooting of 12-year-old in Mattapan

Mark DeRosa has three musts for hitting coaches. The first is availability. “He has to be a cage rat,” DeRosa, who spent 16 seasons in the majors, told the Daily News. The second is a “ridiculously positive” demeanor that can guide a player through inevitable failure. The final requirement is the ability to solve a hitter’s problems in a timely manner. “You got to get me out of a slump quicker than I can get myself out of it,” said DeRosa, who is now an analyst for MLB Network.“You got to be able to do those three things,” the former utility man continued, “and I know he can do those three things.”The “he” in question is Sean Casey, who became the Yankees’ lead hitting coach this past week after the fourth-place team fired Dillon Lawson following prolonged offensive struggles.Casey, who introduced himself to reporters on Wednesday, comes to the Yankees with 12 major league seasons, a lifetime .302 ave...FTC investigating ChatGPT creator OpenAI over consumer protection issues
