(CNN) — Russia unleashed what is believed to have been the deadliest attack on Ukrainian civilians in months on Friday, killing at least 23 people in an early-morning missile strike on an apartment block in the city of Uman. The attack, which drew international condemnation, came around 4 a.m. local time, when a barrage of long-range cruise missiles was launched from Russian aircraft in the Caspian Sea area, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Twenty-one of the 23 missiles were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses, it claimed. But missiles hit the central Ukrainian cities of Uman, in the Cherkasy region, and Dnipro. OTTAWA — Canada is relocating its efforts to get stranded Canadians out of Sudan from the capital to a distant port city as violence continues to escalate between the country’s army and a powerful paramilitary group.Defense Minister Anita Anand says about 550 people, including more than 400 Canadians, left the country on six military-run flights from the country’s main airport in Khartoum between Thursday and Saturday. But deteriorating safety conditions in the Sudanese capital made it necessary to suspend future flights as of Saturday night, and Anand says evacuation efforts will now be based out of the city of Port Sudan about 800 kilometres away.Canada’s Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen. Wayne Eyre, says pilots using night vision goggles saw gunfire exchanges and fighting on the ground in Khartoum on Saturday as they conducted two flights carrying 205 passengers, including 60 Canadians. WASHINGTON (AP) — More than a half million of the poorest Americans could be left without health insurance under legislation passed by House Republicans that would require people to work in exchange for health care coverage through Medicaid. It’s one of dozens of provisions tucked into a GOP bill that would allow for an increase in the debt limit but curb government spending over the next decade. The bill is unlikely to become law, though. It is being used by House Republicans to draw Democrats to the negotiating table and avoid a debt default. Democrats have strongly opposed the Medicaid work requirement provision, saying it won’t incentivize people to get a job and will drive up the number of uninsured in the country. Here’s a look at how the proposal might save taxpayers money but cost some Americans access to health care coverage. WHO WOULD BE REQUIRED TO WORK? The work requirements say able-bodied adults ages 19 to 55 who don’t have children or other dep...2 killed, 4 wounded in Mississippi shooting; man arrested

(The Conversation) - The legend goes that there is a pot of gold hidden at the end of every rainbow. But is there really an “end” to a rainbow, and can we ever get to it?Most us go through life seeing rainbows only as arches of color in the sky, but that’s only half of what is really a circle of color.Normally, when you look at a rainbow, the Earth’s horizon in front of you hides the bottom half of the circle. But if you are standing on a mountain where you can see both above and below you, and the sun is behind you and it is misty or has just rained, chances are good that you will see more of the rainbow’s circle. To see the full circle, however, you will have to be in an airplane, literally above the clouds. Or you could create your own rainbow. I am a physicist, and I’ll explain how to do that in a minute. How a rainbow formsRainbows form when sunlight from behind you hits millions of tiny round water droplets in front of you and bounces back to your eyes.As a sunbeam hit...Latest news
