America will probably get more killer tornado- and hail-spawning supercells as the world warms, according to a new study that also warns the lethal storms will edge eastward to strike more frequently in the more populous Southern states, like Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. The supercell storm that devastated Rolling Fork, Mississippi is a single event that can’t be connected to climate change. But it fits that projected and more dangerous pattern, including more nighttime strikes in a southern region with more people, poverty and vulnerable housing than where storms hit last century. And the season will start a month earlier than it used to.The study in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society predicts a nationwide 6.6% increase in supercells and a 25.8% jump in the area and time the strongest supercells twist and tear over land under a scenario of moderate levels of future warming by the end of the century. But in certain areas in the South the increase is much highe...Klinsmann still awaits first win as Uruguay beats SKorea 2-1

Jurgen Klinsmann is still waiting for his first win as head coach of South Korea after Uruguay triumphed 2-1 in a friendly played at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Tuesday. The former Germany and U.S. coach was appointed last month and his first match in charge was a 2-2 home draw with Colombia on Friday. After Korea progressed to the second round of last year’s World Cup at the expense of Uruguay, the result provided some measure of revenge for the visiting team. The meeting between the two teams in Qatar ended 0-0 but it only took Sebastian Coates 10 minutes to open the scoring for Uruguay, after he rose above the Korean defense to head home a corner from Federico Valverde.Six minutes into the second half, midfielder Hwang In-beom fired home a shot from inside the penalty area. But Lazio’s Matias Vecino grabbed the winner in the 63rd minute, scoring from close range after goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo parried a Joaquin Piquerez free-kick.With six minutes remaining, Kim Young-gw...Nashville school shooting: Body camera video shows police confront, kill active shooter

(CNN) — If someone were to ask you to draw the Pepsi logo from memory, what would you draw? A circle, perhaps, with the red, white and blue stripes that are emblematic of the brand. The word “Pepsi,” probably, in that globe. When PepsiCo walks people through this exercise, as it sometimes does, that’s what most do: They put the word “Pepsi” in the circle. But that’s not how the current logo actually looks. The brand name is off to the side, a bit meek next to the iconic globe. So Pepsi is making a change.“We couldn’t ignore that kind of insight,” Mauro Porcini, PepsiCo’s chief design officer, told CNN. “Instead of rejecting it, we decided to embrace it.”Pepsi on Tuesday unveiled a new logo and branding that will roll out in North America this fall and globally next year. It looks a lot like the 1990s version which seems to have stuck in people’s brains, but with new elements to make it more modern, in...Amateur gold digger finds huge nugget worth $160,000 in Australia

BRUSSELS — Estonia’s EU allies are questioning the Baltic country’s calculations for the reimbursement of weapons it is sending to Ukraine, suggesting Tallinn’s bill way outstrips its peers as it is using EU funds to significantly upgrade its military through the pay-back scheme. Estonia insists its claims for new weapons are in line with the rules on replacing vital kit and simply reflect its massive contributions to the war, but its critics note the EU refund scheme would be under heavy strain if every country, particularly bigger ones, operated the same accounting methodology as Tallinn. While Lithuania and Latvia have also made similar contributions to Ukraine — valued about €400 million or more — their demands on the fund under the same conditions as Estonia are far less. In a historic first after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, EU countries have been partially reimbursed for providing military aid with money from a joint fund called the Eur...Boston Police identify victim of Winter Street homicide
