MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) â Liberian President George Weah conceded defeat late Friday after provisional results from this weekâs runoff vote showed challenger Joseph Boakai beating him by just over a percentage point.Elections officials said that with 99.58% of ballots counted from Tuesday’s election, Boakai was in the lead, with 50.89% to Weahâs 49.11%. The results were a dramatic reversal from the election six years ago when Weah easily beat Boakai in the second round.âThe Liberian people have spoken and we have heard their voice,â Weah said in an address to the nation, adding that Boakai âis in a lead that we can not surpass.ââI urge you to follow my example and accept the result of the elections,â he said, adding that âour time will come againâ in 2029. NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) â Miami coach Jim Larrañaga and his staff noticed the trend during the preseason. Whenever a scrimmage would take place, there was always one side that would string a bunch of baskets consecutively together.âSpurtability,â Larrañaga calls it.It has carried over to the regular season â and the Hurricanes brought it to the Bahamas, too.Matthew Cleveland scored 18 points, Nijel Pack added 16 and No. 12 Miami topped Georgia 79-68 on Friday in the opening round of the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship. A 12-0 run in the first half â Miami’s sixth double-digit unanswered scoring burst so far this season â helped put the Hurricanes in control.âAt any time throughout the game, this Miami team is capable of reeling off a bunch of points in a hurry,â Georgia coach Mike White said. âAnd you know, you watch it on TV last spring, you watch it on film here over these past few days, now seeing it live, it really hits home how good these guys are offensively.âWooga Popl...Liberian President George Weah concedes defeat after provisional results show challenger Joseph Boakai winning runoff

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) â Broncos safety Kareem Jackson is trying to figure out how to make his bang-bang hits a little cleaner. Because right now, his borderline blasts are resulting in big blows to his bank account. His reputation, too.Jackson has been fined a total of $89,670 for four illegal hits this season and his recent two-game suspension cost him $279,000 in salary. He’s vowing to adjust his aim a little lower on pass catchers. Even then, he canât guarantee anything. âFor me as a player, as an instinctive player, Iâm going to always be in those situations,â said Jackson, who joined the Broncos (4-5) at practice this week and may return to the starting lineup Sunday night against Minnesota (6-4) with P.J. Locke sidelined by a sprained ankle. âBecause my preparation and my instincts are going to put me in those situations.âThe 35-year-old Jackson tried to seek some clarity from the league on his hits, but still feels puzzled. He’s third on the team with 42 tackles.â...Moms for Liberty reports over $2 million in revenue, with bulk of contributions from two donors

The Moms for Liberty âparental rightsâ nonprofit reported $2.1 million in total revenue in 2022, a big leap from the previous year that was made possible primarily through contributions from two anonymous megadonors, according to a tax filing provided to The Associated Press on Friday. The dramatic increase was up from $370,000 in revenue the previous year, when it was founded, and reveals the financial footprint of the polarizing group’s massive nationwide growth. That includes high-profile events over the past year with prominent conservative groups and Republican political candidates.Since its founding in 2021, Moms for Liberty has amassed vigorous support from some conservatives who support its efforts to target references to race and LGBTQ+ identity in schools across the country. At the same time, the group has generated forceful backlash from grassroots groups and anti-hate organizations who argue its activism stirs extremist ideas and harms minority and LGBTQ+ students.M...DeSantis, Haley and Ramaswamy get personal and emotional during âfamily discussionâ in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) â The Republicans battling to be their party’s alternative to former President Donald Trump came together Friday for a different kind of cattle call Friday, bringing personal and emotional stories to what an influential Iowa Christian organization billed as a friendly conversation.Three candidates â Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy â sat down for a roundtable âfamily discussionâ in Des Moines Friday. Trump did not attend, though he was invited. All three connected their opposition to legalized abortion to difficulties they had having children. Ramaswamy gestured for his son to join him onstage after detailing how his wife, Apoorva, thought she had suffered a second miscarriage. The candidates shared their personal stories in an unusual forum, a...Cousins has gone from denial to grief to full immersion in rehab; his future with Vikings can wait

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) â In the first moments after Kirk Cousins fell to the grass in Green Bay during a seemingly routine sack, Minnesota’s once-indestructible quarterback figured he just had a sprained ankle. As Vikings center Garrett Bradbury helped him up, Cousins tried to stand and felt an eerie sensation of the ground sinking underneath him.OK, he thought, so there was no feeling in his right foot. Perhaps he had some nerve damage. He still ought to be able to play through that, right? Cousins’ naivete, or denial, quickly gave way to reality once he hopped off the field and the medical staff tended to him on the bench. His Achilles tendon was torn, an automatic end to his season with the Vikings already midway through their schedule.âI was Googling the five stages of grief, maybe even that night, trying to understand that better,â Cousins said. âI donât think itâs stages. I think all five just swirl all at once.âCousins is nearly three weeks removed from that fateful pla...Griffinâs 24 lead Wyoming past Charleston 67-60 at Myrtle Beach Invitational

DENVER (KDVR) -- A judge ruled Friday that former President Donald Trump can appear on the 2024 Colorado ballot, rejecting an effort to block him based on the Constitution's insurrection clause. The state is ordered by the courts to place Donald J. Trump on the Republican presidential primary ballot when it certifies the ballot on Jan. 5, 2024.In its decision, the court looked at whether section three of the 14th Amendment applies to Trump. A professor who testified in the case provided historical evidence that the presidency is understood as an "office, civil or military, under the United States," and thus includes the former president. However, the court said that it is "odd indeed and very troubling to the Court" to lump the presidency in with all other civil or military offices, because section three explicitly lists all federal elected positions besides the president and vice president. Therefore, the judge was unpersuaded to include the presidency as an office subject to section...Latest news
