Factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, little exercise and alcohol use can raise a person’s risk of having a stroke, according to the CDC. While stroke is a leading cause of death in the U.S., the number of stroke related deaths are increasing at a faster pace in low-income countries than in wealthier ones.
