‘Moments I will always remember’: Tim Anderson reflects on his road to 1,000 hits with the Chicago White Sox Tim Anderson was back in his role as an igniter, singling sharply to center field on the first pitch of his first-inning at-bat in Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals. The hit jump-started a five-run rally for the Chicago White Sox in a 6-2 win at Guaranteed Rate Field. It was typical Anderson in a season that has been anything but for the eight-year veteran. While the year hasn’t gone anywhere close to plan for the shortstop and the Sox — Anderson entered Wednesday hitting .240, and the Sox were 33 games under .500 — he did recently reach a milestone by collecting his 1,000th career hit with a double in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers on Sept. 3 at Guaranteed Rate Field. In doing so, Anderson became the 19th player to record his first 1,000 hits with the franchise.“It’s an unbelievable accomplishment because a lot of things go into that,” manager Pedro Grifol said last week. “Health, talent, youR...

Flaherty to Mayor Wu: Don’t wait on Boston City Council to clear out Mass and Cass Boston City Councilor Michael Flaherty says the mayor shouldn’t wait for his colleagues to act before removing tents in the troubled Mass and Cass zone.Flaherty said the City Council’s committee on government operations should have held a hearing on Mayor Michelle Wu’s anti-encampment ordinance “at the first possible moment,” rather than wait until Sept. 28, as scheduled by committee chair Ricardo Arroyo.“Frankly, if I was the mayor, I’d clear it up myself now,” Flaherty told the Herald Wednesday. “The Boston City Council can’t organize a one-car funeral these days. If I’m the mayor of Boston, I don’t wait for the Boston City Council. I do it myself.”The late September hearing date pushed a Council vote on the matter into October, Flaherty said, more than a month after the mayor proposed the ordinance as part of her three-pronged plan to tackle crime at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard.Given that the ordinance was introduced to the Council on Wednes...
