Electricity and gas prices stabilize in 2023

Electricity and gas prices stabilize in 2023 After a significant increase in prices that started before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but skyrocketed through the second semester of 2022, electricity and gas prices are stabilising. The prices of energy rose due to an increase in the price of natural gas, which is considered the marginal fuel. This happened because the imports from Russia decreased, and other importers were sought. The energy market is priced after the marginal fuel, which means that the price of natural gas affects the prices of the electricity market. Mechanisms were constructed to alleviate the pressure on consumers, and one of these were subsidies. In the first half of 2023, average household electricity prices in the EU continued to show an increase compared with the same period in 2022, from €25.3 per 100 kWh to €28.9 per 100 kWh. Average gas prices also increased compared with the same period in 2022, from €8.6 per 100 kWh to €11.9 per 100 kWh in the first half of 2023. These prices are the highest reco...

Residents demand more action over racial Marin high school video Some Marin residents are calling for stronger action by the Tamalpais Union High School District to address a video with a racial slur that was made and shared by Tamalpais High School students.More than a dozen speakers who attended the district board meeting Tuesday said not enough has been done to repair damage and rebuild trust after the incident. The commenters at the board of trustees meeting on Tuesday included parents, students, teachers and community leaders.“Students are being hurt, families are being hurt,” parent Hilary Heaven told trustees. “We don’t feel safe.”Teacher Grace Backer said she asked her students to put their heads down on their desks and then hold their fingers up to signify how much they still felt fearful and anxious about the incident, on a scale of 1 to 5.“All the White students held up 1 finger, meaning they were just going on with their day-to-day lives and not thinking about it,” Backer said. “All the students of color posted a 5.”Johnathan Logan, p...

Marin hike: Kehoe Beach offers a long trip back in time

Marin hike: Kehoe Beach offers a long trip back in time The first report of giant sunfish remains on a Point Reyes beach emerged via Instagram, where a local Marin feed posted the picture. News outlets picked up the story, expanding it to explain that the 6-foot animal with its deceptively nonhydrodynamic-looking shape was not just your average mola mola sunfish but instead was a rare mola tecta, or hoodwinker sunfish. The remains were discovered by a surfer, and after one of the stories identified the location as Kehoe Beach, my intrepid partners in the outdoors and I decided that Kehoe would be the destination for our regular Sunday outdoorsing. We knew there was a chance that our mola quest would prove fishless, but the weather was rainy, foggy and cool — in other words, perfect for a hike along the Pacific coast. This 0.6-mile trail leading to that great ocean offered a few quirks, one of which was a daylight sighting of a skunk foraging in a nearby tangle of shrubs. Another is that this trail is the only one in the Point Reyes Nationa...

Can’t touch them too late. But the two most devastating QB injuries this season didn’t involve a violent hit. Kirk Cousins wasn’t even touched before he went down Sunday.Aaron Rodgers was barely hit on a sack when he suffered a torn Achilles tendon on the fourth play of his first game with the New York Jets in September. The Minnesota Vikings fear Cousins also has a torn Achilles tendon. Cousins, who has never missed a game because of an injury in his 12-year career, could miss the rest of the season after suffering the non-contact injury on a freak play. “Three-man rush and he kind of stepped up in the pocket. That is all I saw,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said. “I just know in some of my dialogue with Kirk it seems like maybe ...

McDonald’s promotions lure diners despite higher menu prices and revenue jumps 14% McDonald’s reported better-than-expected sales in the third quarter as popular promotions brought in customers despite higher U.S. prices.Global same-store sales — or sales at locations open at least a year — rose 8.8% in the July-September period, the burger giant said Monday.
