RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — When the Brazilian prosecutor in charge of a homicide case targeting Danilo Cavalcante saw footage of the 34 year-old crab-walk out of a U.S. prison last month, he thought the fugitive might try to head home, where he stood to receive a considerably lighter sentence.Cavalcante fled Brazil in 2018, several months after allegedly shooting a man whose family members said owed him money. Today, Cavalcante faces life in a U.S. cell for the brutal killing of his girlfriend.“I thought he wanted to escape to Brazil,” Tocantins state prosecutor Rafael Pinto Alamy told The Associated Press on Thursday. “He would have to comply with the prison rules here, which are much more lenient.”A court hearing in Cavalcante’s Brazilian homicide case has been set for Oct. 11. The case is expected to go to a jury, probably next year, Alamy and Cavalcante’s lawyer told the AP.Brazil does not deliver life sentences. Western Loudon County is an area of Virginia that is rural, and residents and preservationists are working to keep it that way.Along a dusty dirt road off Route 50 sits Mickie Gordon Park. Before you get to the park, there are signs lining the road, reading: “Save Mickie Gordon Park.”The people behind the signs want the county’s parks and recreation department to reconsider a proposal to build 18, 100-foot tall lights in the park.A group of residents near Mickie Gordon Park oppose a plan to install new lights in the park because it takes away from the area’s small-town feel. Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia took an “overly narrow view” of its Title IX responsibilities, according to the findings of a review of how the school system handled two in-school sexual assaults by the same student in 2021.A judge ruled that the report was to be made public Thursday, even after the school system argued it was covered under attorney-client privilege and should not be shared with the public. After the first sexual assault at Stone Bridge High School on May 28, 2021, the school system shouldn’t have delayed its Title IX complaint investigation, despite the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office suggesting it do so, the report said. The school system, according to the report, believed an agreement with law enforcement prevented it from launching its own investigation into the Stone Bridge sexual assault while the Sheriff’s Office looked into the case.Loudoun County schools, according to the report, also should have conducted a threat assessment...Imágenes satelitales muestran el antes y el después de las mortales inundaciones en Libia
