Pfizer topped Wall Street expectations Tuesday even as sales of its top-selling COVID-19 vaccine crumbled in the first quarter. Revenue from Pfizer’s Comirnaty vaccine fell 77% to $3 billion in the first three months of the year, compared with more than $13 billion during the same stretch last year. The drop was widely expected because the drugmaker is moving this year from supplying governments through big contracts to selling the vaccine on the commercial market. Pfizer expects sales from Comirnaty to drop 64% this year and revenue from its market-leading COVID-19 treatment Paxlovid to slide 58% due to this shift. Sales of Paxlovid actually jumped past $4 billion in the first quarter, largely due to the timing of a final delivery for Pfizer’s U.S. government contract. Pfizer expects commercial sales for both to kick in later this year, after leftover government inventory is absorbed. Both the vaccine and treatment have generated billions in revenue for Pfizer over the last sev...Agco: Q1 Earnings Snapshot

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (WSVN) — A golfer on a Florida course was arrested and accused of using a golf club to beat another man, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, Joseph Sivak, sustained several injuries, including broken ribs, fractured cheekbones, and stitches in his ear.The incident happened when Sivak and his wife were taking their regular walk around the neighborhood and briefly crossed the cart path. “Just heard somebody screaming, swearing at us, coming up really fast behind us,” Sivak said. After arguing, golfer Eddie Orobitg spat in Sivak’s face and hit him with his fists and the golf club. He lost consciousness while Ororbitg attacked him.“I nearly died, that’s the thing that scared me,” said Sivak. He added that the incident has shattered his worldview of the neighborhood and it would be hard to regain any trust.“Had he been struck just in the right place it could have been much, much worse,” said Lt. ...New text alert service aims to prevent Boston residents from being towed

A new text alert service is aiming to to prevent Bostonians from being towed. The free, resident-created service Tow Zone Alert allows drivers to register their license plate and receive automated text messages if their vehicle is parked illegally. Users can also alert other drivers who are registered. The creators hope that it will help people navigate the confusing street cleaning schedules.“A lot of the street cleaning schedules say that there’s street cleaning on the first Monday or weekday of the month on the even sides and the second and the fourth weekdays on the odd sides,” said Tow Zone Alerts founder Eli Silvert. “If we’ve made a mistake in terms of where we’ve parked, if a neighbor or even a ticket maid could give us a reminder, we think that’s helpful,” he added. Residents who are interested in signing up for the alert service can do so on the Tow Zone Alerts website.City of Providence suing social media platforms for harming children’s mental health

(CNN) — It’s the first Monday of May, which means the Met Gala is back, with A-Listers descending upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for fashion’s most extravagant night. While last year’s theme leaned into the lavishness of the Gilded Era, this year is focusing on a different legacy of luxury: “In honor of Karl” is a tribute to the life and career of Karl Lagerfeld, the powerhouse — and often controversial — designer who transformed some of fashion’s most famous houses. Lagerfeld became synonymous with Chanel in the decades he served as creative director, and when he died in 2019, at age 85, he was still helming Chanel and Fendi, where he led design for more than half a century, as well as his own eponymous label. The Met Gala theme is based on the Costume Institute’s spring show “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which is a posthumous retrospective of the Germa...Front office weighs when to promote prospects as Chicago Cubs — and a bloodied Dansby Swanson — shake off sweep with 5-1 win

The image of blood dripping near the right eyebrow of Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson on Monday night invoked the play-through-anything reputation he has developed during his career. This isn’t the first time Swanson’s helmet cut him. This time, as he slid headfirst into second base for a one-out double in the third inning of the Cubs’ 5-1 win versus the Washington Nationals, the helmet popped off and became pinned against second baseman Luis Garcia’s leg, cutting Swanson as Garcia turned to apply the tag.It prompted a brief delay as manager David Ross applied pressure to the small gash to stop the bleeding while a Cubs trainer put on medical gloves to bandage the spot.“I guess I can add that to my resume,” Ross quipped.Swanson joked with Ross that he had been watching too much Stanley Cup playoff hockey lately.“I’m 0-for-3 in terms of wins against a helmet,” Swanson said. “So unfortunately this is nothing new. As soon...Stock market today: Wall Street subdued before Fed meeting

TOKYO — Wall Street inched lower before the bell Tuesday ahead of what many hope will be the last interest rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve for some time. Futures for the Dow Jones industrials ticked down 0.2% before the bell and the S&P 500 slipped 0.1%, with the response to the third failure of a sizeable U.S. bank on Monday muted. Investors appear more focused on the next moves at the Federal Reserve, which begins a two-day meeting Tuesday. Most economists expect the Fed to raise short-term rate by another quarter of a percentage point, up to a range of 5 to 5.25% from virtually zero early last year. The Fed has been raising rates sharply in hopes of getting high inflation under control. But high rates are a notoriously blunt tool that slow the entire economy, raise the risk of a recession and hurt prices for investments. They also contributed to the recent turmoil in the financial sector, particularly for banks top heavy with rate sensitive investments like bonds. If ban...Latest news
