How did Colorado get its name?

(NEXSTAR) — If you're one of the 265,000 people who moved to Colorado last year, you may not know where the name "Colorado" even comes from (you might also be uncertain what to call yourself — we've got you covered there, too). To fully explain it, you have to look at some of Colorado's most iconic features: its red rocks. Whether it is Red Rocks Park, Garden of the Gods, or areas within Mesa Verde National Park, you don't have to wander far in Colorado to spot dazzling red rocks. Those red rocks, as well as the area's red soil, helped create the name Colorado, which is closely tied to the Spanish translation of "colored red," "coloreado rojo," according to the state archives. There's also "colorido," which translates to "colorful." Which is right: Coloradan or Coloradoan? Congress selected the name when the state was only a territory in 1861. Without the help of some advocates from a southern city, Colorado City, the state may have had a different name. Charlotte and Portland are the others.“We’re getting a little more organized, more comfortable,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “And that allows you to be more confident.”Mikal Bridges and Lonnie Walker IV each scored 23 for Brooklyn, which had won its last five games against Miami. (CNN) — A federal judge said Thursday he would not intervene in a dispute between X owner Elon Musk and the Federal Trade Commission in an ongoing agency investigation of the social media giant that has triggered intense public scrutiny. The decision means Musk may be forced to cooperate with federal investigators who are probing X, the company formerly known as Twitter, over business decisions that regulators fear may have jeopardized user security or privacy. The 11-page order by US Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixon denies X’s attempt to invalidate a longtime privacy settlement with the FTC that forms the basis for the investigation. Hixon said the US District Court for the Northern District of California lacks the authority to grant X’s request to overturn the independent agency’s administrative order. For the same reason, Hixon said he could not block the FTC from trying to depose Musk as part of the probe. The ruling could indirectly boost a similar ...New GLX Tracks To Be Fixed During Nighttime Closures
