NEW YORK (AP) — Overstock has officially relaunched the Bed Bath & Beyond domain online Tuesday in the U.S., after acquiring the bankrupt retail chain’s intellectual property assets for $21.5 million last month. The online retailer Overstock.com said in late June that it was dumping its name online and it will become Bed & Bath & Beyond, which declared bankruptcy earlier this year. The name change was made in Canada on June 29, but at the time the Midvale, Utah-based company didn’t specify a date for the U.S. relaunch.Overstock.com’s CEO Jonathan Johnson told The Associated Press in a phone interview last week that the relaunch in Canada has “run without a hitch.” The company has added roughly 600,000 bed and bath items since its bid for the retailer became public last month, Johnson said. The company has still not made any decisions on a corporate name, he said.Johnson had said that the name change was necessary because Overstock still confuses some c...Bruins, Trent Frederic agree to deal, avoid arbitration

While awaiting the arbitration award for goalie Jeremy Swayman, the Bruins came to terms with restricted free agent Trent Frederic, who’d been scheduled for a Tuesday arbitration hearing of his own.Frederic was signed to a two-year deal worth an average annual value of $2.3 million, according to multiple reports. In an exchange of pre-arbitration numbers, Frederic’s camp was seeking $2.9 million while the B’s were at $1.4 million.Frederic will be earning more than twice his salary from last season – $1.05 million – on the strength of his breakout 17-goal season in 2022-23 while skating primarily at right wing with center Charlie Coyle and left wing Taylor Hall. The contract leaves the B’s with approximately $3.1 million in salary cap space. With Hall traded to Chicago and Coyle expected to bump up in the lineup with the retirement Patrice Bergeron and the expected departure of David Krejci, it’s not clear where Frederic will slot in the lineup for the up...Patriots OT Trent Brown sitting out second straight practice Tuesday, 8 others missing

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — A goal post saved the United States from elimination at the Women's World Cup. Ana Capeta nearly scored for Portugal in stoppage time but her shot hit the left post and the United States escaped with a uninspiring 0-0 draw Tuesday night that got them through — just barely — to the knockout round. The U.S. won only one game in group play for the first time in tournament history, scoring just four goals over three games. With the scoreless draw, the United States fell to second in the group behind the Netherlands and will head to Melbourne, Australia, for a round of 16 match on Sunday. “We should have put some in the back of the net and we didn't. We own that,” Alex Morgan said. “We're not happy with the performance we put out there. But at the same time, we're moving on.” The Americans, the most successful team ever at the World Cup with four titles, have never been eliminated in the tournament's group stage. But they looked shaky against the Portuguese, ...Rex Heuermann, the architect accused of killing 3 women found at Gilgo Beach, is due back in court

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Rex Heuermann, the architect accused of murdering at least three women and leaving their bodies along a remote stretch of coastline near Long Island’s Gilgo Beach, is due back in court on Tuesday for the first time since his arraignment.Heuermann is charged with killing Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Lynn Costello, who disappeared in 2009 and 2010. Prosecutors also say he’s suspected in the death of a fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who vanished in 2007.All of the women were sex workers whose remains were discovered near each other on a barrier island off Long Island’s southern coast.Investigators spent nearly two weeks combing through Heuermann’s home in Massapequa Park, across a bay from where the remains were found. The search included digging up the yard, dismantling a porch and a greenhouse and removing many contents of the house for testing. Heuermann’s wife, Asa Ellerup, told the New York Post that the search left t...Job openings fall to lowest level in 2 years as demand for workers cools

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. employers posted fewer jobs in June, a sign that the red-hot demand for workers that has been a key feature of the post-pandemic economy is cooling a bit. Job openings dropped to 9.6 million in June, the Labor Department said Tuesday, down slightly from the previous month but much lower than the 10.3 million in April and the fewest in more than two years. The government’s report also showed that the number of people who quit their jobs in June fell sharply to 3.8 million from 4.1 million, another sign the job market is slowing. The Federal Reserve is seeking to cool the job market, because if cpompanies are less desperate to hire, and fewer workers are quitting to seek higher-paying positions elsewhere, then businesses will be under less pressure to raise pay to find and keep workers. Smaller pay hikes could help lower inflation, since businesses won’t have to lift their prices to offset higher labor costs.Tuesday’s report means there are 1.6 jobs ...What students should keep in mind when shopping for a laptop

Amanda Round’s parents splurged on a high school graduation present for her: a $3,000 Microsoft Book 3 laptop. With such a high price tag, Round’s mom made sure to show the store her daughter’s McMaster University acceptance letter, so she could get the approximately $500 student discount. Round, now an incoming fourth-year student in McMaster’s integrated science program, advises other students to pull the same move as her mom.“I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price for any computer,” Round says. “If there’s not a back-to-school discount, there’s an education discount.”Laptop prices range from $300 to $3,000, according to Toronto-based tech consultant Avery Swartz. But now is a good time to buy.“August is the best time of year to buy a laptop because it’s when all the deals are on,” she adds.Swartz believes the most important questions that students ask themselves before even beginning to research laptops is: What am I using this for? And how much money am I...Latest news
