Student loan payments due in October after years-long pause

(The Hill) -- The Department of Education has locked in for student loan borrowers when payments will restart after the three-year pause from COVID-19.The department says on its website the interest for student loan payments will begin in September while payments will resume again in October. The update says the payments are restarting again since “Congress recently passed a law preventing further extensions of the payment pause."The break in federal payments began under then-President Donald Trump in early 2020.The law that prevented further extensions of it was included in the debt ceiling agreement between President Joe Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R).“We will notify borrowers well before payments restart,” the department said. ST. LOUIS - A deadly shooting at a St. Louis neighborhood barbecue several years ago leads to a murder conviction. Kennice Brock, 51, was convicted of first-degree murder and armed criminal action over the murder of Carl Netter in July 2020. Former St. Louis alderman under federal indictment for insurance fraud According to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, Brock walked into a neighborhood barbecue at Biker's Corner and shot netter after he was repeatedly asked to put his weapon away. This happened in thw 1900 block of North Vandeventer Avenue in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood. Newly-appointed circuit attorney Gabe Gore credits Assistant Circuit Attorney Srikant Chigurupati for the prosecution. The city of Pasadena is considering new measures to fight the homeless crisis that include creating designated parking spots for those experiencing homelessness.Officials are looking into converting certain spaces in the city to those designated parking spots.Some of the zoning amendments officials are considering include:Allowing safe parking sites on all religious institutions, colleges and transit facilities throughout Pasadena with a minor conditional-use permit.Redefining emergency shelters to provide more flexibility for local nonprofits.Establishing “low-barrier navigation” centers, which provide temporary living facilities without some of the requirements already in place.
