DENVER (KDVR) -- A new warning from police may have shoppers thinking twice before purchasing gift cards this holiday season. Police said scammers are using several techniques to tamper with gift cards with no way of telling until it’s too late. Beware: Police warn of undetectable card skimmers at ATMs, gas pumps Noel Hart told FOX31 that he has witnessed these tampered gift card schemes first-hand, not once, but twice, and from two different stores in Thornton. "It was shocking to me because we don’t think about these things,” Hart said. “When you look at them, they look fine.” But once the barcode on the gift card envelope is scanned and activated at checkout, there's no way to tell the actual gift card has been tampered with until opening. In Hart’s case, once opened, he said the first gift card they purchased had been switched out while the access code on the second gift card was destroyed. Much progress has been made on water security over recent decades, yet for the first time in human history, our collective actions have pushed the global water cycle out of balance. Water is life: it is essential for health, food, energy, socioeconomic development, nature and livable cities. It is hardly surprising that the climate and biodiversity crises are also a water crisis, where one reinforces the other. Already, a staggering four billion people suffer from water scarcity for at least one month a year and two billion people lack access to safely-managed drinking water. By 2030, global water demand will exceed availability by 40 percent. By 2050, climate-driven water scarcity could impact the economic growth of some regions by up to 6 percent of their Gross Domestic Product per year.Meike van Ginneken, Water Envoy of the Kingdom of the NetherlandsRight now, the world’s first Global Stocktake is assessing the progress being made toward the goals of the Paris Agreement and glob...Agriculture gets its day at COP28, but experts see big barriers to cutting emissions

More than 100 world leaders at this year’s United Nations climate summit agreed to make their farm and food systems a key part of their plans to fight climate change, seeking improvements in a sector that accounts for about a third of planet-warming emissions. With livestock accounting for over half of those emissions, meat and dairy are at the forefront of many agriculture conversations at COP28 in Dubai. The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization added to those conversations with an updated report that included ways to cut those livestock emissions. “You don’t meet the climate goals without doing something in the system, and in this case on livestock,” said Francesco Tubiello, a senior statistician with the FAO who worked on the report. It briefly mentions eating less meat, but mostly highlights ways the meat industry can improve productivity and efficiency.Change won’t be easy.
