ALABANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- According to an updated report by the New York State Labor Department, women in New York made 88 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2021."That figure is all women compared to white men the year before," explained Department of Labor Commissioner, Roberta Reardon. "The thing that’s really not so well known is women of color have much worse pay gaps. For Black American women, it is about 68 cents to the dollar and for Latina women in the United States, it’s 63 cents to the dollar." BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Warm weather in February and March had crops at Eckert’s Farm coming out of dormancy early, but luckily the timing of this cold isn’t too terrible just yet.“Getting ready to bloom. They’re not blooming yet, fortunately," said Chris Eckert, president of Eckert's Inc. "So this cool weather has us a little on edge about not losing any crops to mother nature."Plants on the ground the next three nights are most at risk because the temperature at night is colder.“Strawberries for us, in particular, is a crop that we know we’re going to have to protect because the buds are formed and out there," Eckert said. "They’re not open flowers yet, but they’re still vulnerable to temperatures below 20 degrees. In our case, we’re putting some fabric blankets over our strawberries, and in the case of certain varieties that are a little more advanced, we’re actually putting two layers of covering.” Trending: Mother of Jefferson County detainee wants to visit son in ICU While apples...1 hospitalized after shooting at South Los Angeles Burger King

Many policies say authorized uses “include but are not limited to” a list of situations, or use euphemisms, as when the Livermore Police Department says tear gas fired into a house is “a de-escalation tactic.”Community members have a chance t...Letters: Try Caltrain | Shame on author | Wrong call | EV infrastructure | Today’s GOP | Stop DeSantis

Read more Letters to the Editor.Quit your car andgive Caltrain a tryYes, as Bruce Holley says (“Expand public transit to help middle class” Page A6, March 9) we need more attention to our public-transit systems to lure people out of their cars on our packed highways. In this car culture of ours, I do wonder whether drivers on Highway 101 realize the pleasures of travel on Caltrain between San Jose and San Francisco. My 45 minutes from San Francisco to Palo Alto recently on the “limited” 7:14 train was quiet and uncrowded, a perfect place to read a good book. Can’t do that driving 101. “Limited” trains take about an hour and a quarter from San Francisco to San Jose. “Bullet” trains take about an hour. There are 52 trains each day.Why don’t more people use them? Perhaps we are just conditioned to assume it’s not a viable option. Try it. You’ll like it.Steve EittreimPa...Latest news
