Editorial: Fight to protect our right to enjoy Colorado’s rivers and streams from private landowners

Coloradans have known for generations that our large rivers and streams and the wildlife therein are publicly owned assets held in trust by the state for the enjoyment of all, regardless of private property status on and around the riverbanks.It is a fundamental concept that we see exercised across the nation from the beaches in California to the rivers and streams in New Mexico to the tidal waters in New York.We understand why courts nationwide have grappled with how to handle private property owners who mistakenly and often suddenly believe they can restrict access to navigable rivers and streams or coasts.But Colorado lawmakers can finally settle this absurd power struggle once and for all.Model legislation for making access and use of these publicly owned assets crystal clear already exists in multiple states, but we particularly like the aggressive access afforded in Montana legislation.It only became necessary for Colorado lawmakers to spell out in detailed and direct language...Denver weather: Warm Monday to precede potentially stormy evening for Fourth of July fireworks shows

The search for a missing 8-year-old boy came to an end when the child was found safe Monday morning.Investigators on Sunday said Angel Chacon had last been seen around 3:30 p.m. Sunday while riding a bicycle near his apartment complex in the 200 block of Ramona Street.Angel had been left at the apartment with his 17-year-old brother. The boy was reported missing around 8:30 p.m. when his mother called 911, the Ventura Police Department stated in a news release. The first supermoon of 2023 brightened the skies above California Sunday night into Monday morning. NASA said at 4:38 a.m. Pacific Time, the moon reached its closest point to the Earth and was directly opposite the sun in Earth's longitude. Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Hit-and-Run Collision near Wellness PlaceHENDERSON, NV (July 3, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, one man was fatally struck in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Galleria Drive.The incident occurred around 6:04 a.m., near Wellness Place.Per reports, the driver of a White Dodge Challenger struck a male pedestrian who was walking within a marked crosswalk.Upon impact, the driver fled the scene east on Galleria Drive.Paramedics arrived and transported the 71-year-old man to Sunrise Trauma Hospital in critical condition. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics later pronounced him dead.Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
